my own opinion is that with great wealth comes the opportunity to simply have lots of time to "think" about things

so eventually Mr. Carnegie felt this was best

i can't help but think also that since the theories of darwin were so new to his modern age (there were a few greeks that articulated a theory of natural evolution) that an influence on Carnegie was the "vouge ness" of it all
