I'm confused, I thought base was the stuff you put on before foundation, or is that pre-base?

so base and foundation is the same thing?

Base and foundation are the same thing. Theyre just 2 different ways of describing them. Foundation or base act as a starting off point to your make up so you can starting building concealer, eyeshadow, blush, etc. Just like building a house you start with the foundation or base.

Using a base makes it easier to apply your normal foundation and hides any redness, blemishes or spots you may have.
First of all exfoliate your face once or twice a week to get rid of the dead skin cells. On the other days use a face wash or a moisturising soap to stop your skin from drying out. If you have dry skin on your face the foundation will not reach its maximum potential.

Make sure you buy the correct base (In your case you can use ruby and Millie) and foundation to match your skin tone. A good foundation will blend into your jaw line.

First of all apply a skin moisturiser as this will make it easier to rub your base foundation in. Apply your ruby and Millie base and apply your main foundation over the top. Add a light blusher to the apples of your cheeks. Smiling when you do this will make it easier.

To clarify: base is put on first. Foundation is put over the top.

Hope this helps!

Your base goes on before your foundation, technically known by make-up artists as Primer. This help to smooth all imperfection, close down pores and more importantly stop your foundation blocking up your pores and getting spots.
Laura Mercier does one of the best, it's kinda world renowned in the make-up artist field.
