Yes, you typically do a lot of foot work for the person you are working for.
You do all the weighing out of reagents, mixing of chemicals in the reactor, monitoring the reactor, helping with the reactor workup, - A LOT of cleanup - glassware and reactor - and general laboratory.
You will be responsible to keep good lab notes as to how the experiment ran, what occurs, and variation that occured at what time.
If you run an extruder you will be responsible for keeping it in opertation, and after use cleaning it out. You will be help responsible for deviations in the compunding variations of the polymer mix - if there are any, so have your (boss) handly to back you up.
A lot to do, it's good solid work if you have an interest in that kind of thing, but it's not a desk job - believe me.
