You are confused, my friend. Leading a horse to water is caring, but you cannot make them drink. The most difficult thing in the world is trying to give something to someone when they do not want it. All you can do is all you can do. Make every effort to help, but understand that there are limits. Any real change must come from inside the other person for it to be meaningful and lasting. So you are not giving up on them, just allowing them to help themselves. Yes it is difficult, but you must let it happen. That is true love.

you can try getting a dropper and squirting it in the horses mouth, or getting a cloth and dripping it on its tongue (meaning taking small steps to encourage it to drink),,,,, but bottem line, if it cant or wont swallow what you are offering,,,,,,, it wont get water,,,,,,, with people, maybe taking an indirect approach,, small steps,,,to lead to the goal, might work,,, but other then encouraging,, its up to them to drink(take in) what you are offering , its not giving up, so much as telling them you will help them when they are ready,,,,,, the motivation must really come from within them,,,,,,, and sometimes stepping back and putting them in charge of it is best,,,,,, its how you can best help them,,,they must desire the goal before you can help them,,,,,,

The truth is the horse is not thirsty. We all function like that; if you're thirsty, you drink. Making someone drink when he's not thirsty can be torture. Besides, if you really care, you'll never make anyone drink. It's like telling someone to breathe. That's what we do, we breathe.
