Personally I think all hospitality industry jobs are great, but I'm afraid that the occupation of being a travel agent is actually going the way of the dodo. There is so much you can do online now that unless you work for an online travel agency I can't really see a future as a travel agent.

Then again, I'm always amazed by how inept even PC technicians are when it comes to using the computer.

Make sure you get some marketing and accounting classes in there, even if you have to take them at a community college. If you go to classes where they just tell you the different prices of hotel rooms and how great Jamaica is (and how great Cuba is GOING to be once Castro kicks the bucket) you're not getting your money's worth.

My mom's cousin was a travel agent for about 30 years before she retired. She was really good. You have to stay on top of things, like airline restrictions. I don't think that there are many travel agents left now because so many people book their trips online, so before you go to school talk to area travel companies and see what the job market is like. If you want to travel I would suggest becoming a flight attendant. They make really good money.
