How dark is "dark?" The best way to know that is to know what color foundation you use. Otherwise, it's hard to figure out which shades would work.

I'm a light olive ( a sort of yellow shade in this case), and usually use Max Factor Lasting Performance #8 (Cool Bronze.) It's about the same color as Bare Minerals Tan foundation. In my case, copper and bronze lipsticks look very nice, but so does a light pink with some shimmer to it.

Firstly, when you use lipstick, you should go mainly natural with the rest of your makeup. Just some mascara and a little bit of blush. What kind of dark skin do you have? You could ask yourself that, because not all dark skin is the same color. Very dark skin looks good in bronze colors, or deep violet shades. Medium dark skin looks good in peaches and tans. And lighter dark skin like say Beyonce, looks good in practically any color. It depends on your style and what your wearing I think, try going to a MAC store and have them find a perfect shade. Hope I could help! =D

take some tissues and go to a department store that has
lipstick samples and try on the colors you like, they usually
have a mirror on the counter. you should also be able to
get advice from the makeup sales person.
try deep jewel tones and maybe a lighter color just in the
center of your lips for extra sparkle.

Try something one shade darker than your skin tone, that will play up your mouth but still be neutral. Or maybe one shade lighter than your skin tone, for summer.

Use a shade of lipstick that's a shade or two lighter then your skin!

No, go wit dark colors because you'll like more together and look more natural and that's what you want. Don't over do it.
