To upload videos from my camcorder and my question is, I know the type of firewire port to buy..... but is it easy to install a firewire port? I know it consists of taking of the side of my monitor off to my computer and installing the port. Just wanted to hear some good advice from some well informed computer people! Thanks!

It is very basic and the equipment is cheap.
You need to purchase a PCI firewire card, which plugs into the motherboard using a PCI expansion slot, so make sure you have one free first!
Just power down the machine, remove the case side, and plug the card into the slot (PCI slots are generally white-color).

Firewire ports aren't that complicated. More than likely the port will come with a disk ( with drivers), basically all you do is open the side of your case, put the firewire port card in one of the open PCI slots, turn your computer back on...and i'm sure you can handle it from there.

Judging just from your posted question, I'd say, "Yes it is hard." It would be easier if you had more experience with the insides of a CPU box, but, for some people, it is better to have a professional do the work.
