it needs 512mb, 800mhz cpu, 128mb gpu for aero, and a 40gb hard drive... but those aren't very good specs.
you'll probably want 1.5GB of ram, a 2GHz processor, and a 256mb graphics card. the OS takes up 15GB, so you'll probably want atleast a 100GB hard drive. with the minimum specs, it runs REALLY laggy.

Why?
Just to brag?
All computers that aren't running it, can't, unless money is spent to 'upgrade' the memory, video card, monitor, and possibly other parts. Then, Aero is not assured to run, because you need to read Microsoft's pages about "capable" hardware, upgrade warrantees, that exclude features, only available on new systems, that ship after the Jan. 30 release date.
Why don't you try out the OS that is FREE, and has concurrent multi-processing, multi-tasking? It runs up to 50X faster, and can run as a LiveCDrom, or, a multi-boot install. Has 5500 FREE games, programs, apps.
