I have a 2002 Mazad 626 and I spend a lot. But I also live in Utah and drive a lot. On average a person shoulg receieve four oil changes and maintaince checks a year. I usually go through six or seven. Each time paying anywhere from $50 bucks to $200. That alone will run you about $350 for the average person. But if you know anything about cars and how they age you know that at different "milestones" for a car you have different maintaince checks.
Then there's tires and for me I spend a goof amount on that because living in Utah there is snow and at times a lot of snow. So the roads are sliperry and wet and dangerous. I slip if I'm not careful and hit a curb once in while. That will mess the alingment up and then the tires will go after that if you don't correct the problem. Alingments can cost $50 to $100 each time but luckily I have a lifetime alingment check with Les Schwab for $200. To actual tires for the car are $75 a pop. So for tires I spend about $300 a year.
Then the last major thing is washing your car. I know that it's cheap and simple but a of people don't do it. I wash my car once a week, at least, twice during winter for four bucks but it adds up. That's about 25 a month times 12 months which comes to $300.
So there you have it. That is what I spend (about) yearly on my car. I hope this anwswers you question.
