Louise Fletcher played a similar character in "Flowers in the Attic" as well. She has been somewhat typecast since that roll. I put "Cuckoos Nest" in my top 5 best movies ever. It's fun watching it now and seeing al lthe "inmates" that went on to other things.. .Danny DiVito, etc...

I am sure plenty of "Nurse Rached's" are around in real life. Hopefully they are not in the same position to do the same harm.

When i had a C section (major surgery, in my view) and asked for pain medicine, the nurse said:
"What a whiner... I had a C section and didn't ask for any pain medicine".
I wanted to get up, chase that witch down and shove her broom down her own neck.

The character of Nurse Ratched was an evil emasculating BEEE-Yatch who got off lucky, Murphy should have finished her off. The actress Louis Fletcher is most likely a normal nice lady who just happens to excel at playing someone you love to hate, Kai Win in Star Trek Deep Space Nine for example. The only role I ever saw her in where I didn't hate her was that Christopher Walken Sci Fi movie "Brainstorm" You get to watch her die of a heart attack in that movie... kind of gratifying actually.

She needs to retire! There are cruel people in every profession unfortunately...thank god I've never met one like her!
