They have to give you one by law and it has to be done by Jan 31st.
Contact the company to be sure you will receive it by then.

there is a form you can fill out
The defunct company is still obligated to provide you with a W-2 so if you know how to get in touch with any of them and tell them you are going to report them if they don't provide your W-2. If the company was sold and it is the same business, ask the new owners if the previous owners left word on past employees, they have until January 31st to get it to you and maybe they haven't gotten to it yet............or they may not realize your address, etc.

Your last paycheck would have the same information as the w-2. If you can't get it from the company, use the pay stub.

If you contact the new owner, they might have the information, or at least contact information for where the old paperwork was turned over to.
The have until the second week of February to get it to you.
