The Taliban was giving safe harbor to Al Qeada and refused to hand over Bin Laden, who was directly responsible for 9/11. You should really get your facts straight.
Iraq had no involvement in 9-11. Dems backed the use of force. Not necessarily all out war. And they really had no choice but to stand united behind the commander and chief, or be called traitors. Also Bush lied and said there were WMD's.

the taliban refused to cooperate with the US on catching al qaida members. iran hated the taliban and had been trying to get them out. so it created a strange unofficial alliance against he taliban. what was agreed about iraq was that at one point saddam had weapons and was a threat. lack of proof to the contrary prompted the invasion of iraq,against UN advice. clintons attempts to do anything in regards to iraq or terrorism were fought by the republican controlled house. congress did not declare war,they left it up bush by granting him power to make decisions. saddam attacked two countries,one with US approval,one with a perceived approval.

I hope you get better answers to this question than you did to all the others. Some of those made my blood boil!
Anyway, I would like to know the same thing. Afghanistan never attacked us as a whole, although the hijackers were trained by al Qaida, for which the main training camp was in Afghanistan.
It's truly amazing to me. I think Hussein was just as bad as Hitler, or WOULD have been, had we allowed him to continue. How can people not see the similarity between them?
I guess they're too busy blaming President Bush, and comparing HIM to Hitler, which also makes no sense to me.

NO Locutus, stop trying to rewrite history...
NO one thought it was a good idea to invade Iraq. Not the Dems, not the UN, not the WORLD. Not even President (Read My LIps) Bush Sr thought it was a smart idea to go into Iraq during the FIRST Gulf War
You dont remember everyone in the WORLD saying give it more time. we arent ready for a military solution yet, and Bush on TV talking about all the UN resolutions Saddam had thumbed his nose at? Giving Saddam the exact date and time the US would invade his country, to make sure Saddam got those WMDs out of Iraq beforehand? ANY of this ringing a bell with you?
The US voted overwhelmingly to go into Afghanistan, because the Taliban regime in Afghanistan harbored terrorists and was giving aid to Osama bin Laden, the man who admitted he orchestrated the attacks of Sept 11, 2001. Do you remember HIM?
Saddam: Had nothing to do with attacks on WTC and Pentagon;
Iraq was one of first nations to condemn the attacks;
No hijacker on Sept 11 was Iraqi;
Publically denounced bin Laden and would not allow Al Qaeda terrorists into his country;
Had no nuclear WMDs, altho Republican intel insists he did;
Never threatened to attack the US or our citizens;
IS NOT PART OF A HUGE OIL BUSINESS IN SAUDI ARABIA
Bin Laden: Publically admitted masterminding Sept 11 attacks;
Quoted saying only person he hated more than G W Bush is Saddam Hussein;
Is STILL AT LARGE, despite repeated promises from Bush to "smoke him out of his hole"
Is part of the mega-wealthy bin Laden family, who are investors in Bush's failed businesses before being rejected President in 2000, and who employed George Bush Sr when he worked at the Carlysle Group during the Sept 11 attacks

No no. The Taliban were shielding OBL and Al Qaeda. That's enough to make them our enemy. Osama was the enemy. Saddam was nothing. And it makes perfect sense. One was a threat - Al Qaeda, the other was a fantasy - Iraq. And Iraq was bottled up by the UN embargo.
