I think he was pretty evasive. He didn't say much about our national debt, or when they are going to put social security in an account that they can't just spend however they feel. He didn't talk much about the gigantic trade deficite. When they got done patting each other on the back, I didn't get much out of it. What do you think?

You are all correct major issue's important to legal American's evaded, other issue's spin factor applied, & a outright in your face B/S against public will for cheap labor supply for employers via immigration legal or not! Representative government sucks they are all out of touch! I did appreciate Jim Webb's 9 minute speech if any of you heard it he IS intouch with the common people Virgina should be proud!

He put himself in the "minefield" of public regard. He has learned nothing from the mistakes of Lyndon Johnson and the war in Viet Nam. This war has gone on long enough and the public is tired of it and showed by voting for a Democrat House and Senate. He cares nothing about what the American people want. I did not like his speech and I do not like this President. He cares nothing for the American people. That is evident. If he did, he would be finding a way to get American troops out of Iraq instead of sending more in. The people spoke and the President refuses to listen. His speech shows that.

I think the reason he ignored Social Security is b/c of the secret about trying to make it to where Mexico can be paid Social Security benefits as well. This is not a joke. I read it yesterday on a site that was talking about tri-lateral state where Canada, U.S. and Mexico become one. It's pretty scary.

Well,I for one understand and respect President Bush even though I may not always agree with him but at least he didn't mouth off and carry on like Senator Webb did in reaction to Bush's speech and even though I understand what Senator Webb was saying still I found Senator Webb's remarks to be conceited, arrogant and disrespectful.
Senator Webb : "My daddy did this and my daddy did that and my daddy wasn't at home to tuck me in bed and read me a bedtime story < cry, cry, cry > and I served in Vietnam and my son is serving in Iraq and < Bush Bashing,Bush Bashing > blah...blah...blah...and Bush better do this and Bush better do that or else.
Senator Webb along with many other Democrats really showed just how much of a pompous *** the Democrats really are and it is despicable and sickening.

The purpose of the speech was to HIGHLIGHT the state of the Union, not get into intricate detail of every little thing. Wouldn't have time for it all. If you keep with the news, you will get detail of the plans, past and present. He did put dates on when he hoped to achieve Soc. Security, balance the budget, etc.

try and put yourself in his shoes for a moment. the man is walking through mine fields everyday with everyone, it seems, warring against him. I believe he took the less antagonistic road with his speech but it was a good one!
