It really depends on what makes you think he is constipated. Is he straining and crying when he has a bowel movement? Has it been several days since he's gone?
If he is breastfed, there's probably nothing to worry about. Exclusively breastfed babies can go quite a while without bowel movements and be just fine, but if he appears to be in pain or if he's not producing six or more wet diapers in a day, there could be something more wrong. If that's the case, I would call your pediatrician to see what they recommend.
If you formula feed, he could very well be constipated. The best thing to do is call your pediatrician. DO NOT offer extra water, juice, Karo syrup, solids, or any OTC constipation aids. He is too young for anything besides breastmilk or formula. Don't use any suppositories unless the doctor says it's ok.

My daughter went through this.
You can try a little prune juice mixed in the babie's bottles. If taste is an issue you can add a little apple juice to it as well. Doesn't sound good to you or I but the doctor gave me the idea and it was the only way my daughter would drink it. It helped my daughter tremendously and it helped fast. once back to normal you can give a couple ounces of plain water in between feedings to help add hydration to the bowels. If this is a constant problem tell your doctor about it. I had to put my daughter on low iron formula for a while. When she was a bit older the doctor gave her a stool softening powder to mix in her drinks.
Good luck I hope things get back to normal quick I know how miserable this can be!

I'd try giving your baby a little bit of white grape juice mixed with water. If you're nursing, make sure you're not eating gassy foods (like raw vegetables) and try nursing a bit more than usual. If it continues, call the doctor for advice. Infrequent bowel movements don't always mean the baby is constipated, so keep track of when you change a dirty diaper, how firm the stool is and how difficult it is for the baby to pass. Some babies only go once a day or even every other day, but you should check with your doctor to make sure that's normal for your baby.

We had a constipation problem at about 3 mo. I was told by the Dr. to give him 2 ounces of Pear Juice (baby kind) and 2 ounces of water mixed. That did not work so we were told to give him 2 ounces of warm water, that did the trick. Now he has to have a gentl formula, about 3 and half scoops and always made with warm water. For us warm water has helped. I did not know any better and I always gave him cold breast milk and or cold formula. My poor first born. Please ask your Dr. first, but this is what helps us.

Dark karo in the bottle works mix it with formula or whatever they eat out of a bottle. I found that I can't give my son staright juice. He has to have like 1 ml of juice to the rest water. Even that makes him poop non stop. Now my son goes once in the morning right after breakfast then he is done until the next day.

Call your Pedi's office.
My doctor recommended sitting my daughter in her baby tub in warm water mixed with baking soda for about 20 minutes (i don't remember exactly how much water and how much baking soda) but it worked. They said if it didn't work, I could get some infant suppository.... and I haven't tried this one (never will) but my MIL can swear by inserting a tiny bit of soap into the back part!!!

I was told by my nurse to give the baby some water mixed with Karo Syrup. I've heard that you can try to give the baby some Chamomile tea. If that doesn't work, I would contact your doctor.

A belly rub does wonders, to massage the well, you know. plus it feels wonderful, even for 560 month olds like me. But the kid will love it. I saw the first answer, about apple juice, which works, at four months they start getting strained foods yes? go heavier on the fruits and cereals. And juices. and don't forget the belly rubs.

Why do you think baby is constipated? If this a breastfed baby...it is normal that they go sometimes all week with only ONE bowel movement! If this a bottle fed baby...i have no real answeres for you...maybe try a dlittle more 'tummy time' than average
