That's so sweet. As a mom myself, if my children do anything at all with the house it's a blessing.

Listening to music always makes me work faster and concentrating on one area helps too. If not folding laundry or doing the dishes is enough of a surprise.

Kudos to you.

Regardless of how well (or how bad) a housekeeper you are, it pays to bring in a professional house cleaner every so often. You'd be amazed at the difference it makes and how easily and quickly they can do the same thing you struggle for hours with.

Oh, and they won't mind at all if you sit back in the recliner and watch TV the whole time.

And take it from someone who was a bachelor for 45 years - you can't let a house go all month (or year) and then try to clean it up an hour before guests arrive. You have to make it a regular routine. Here's a suggestion: Buy a digital timer and each evening spend 5 (yep, just 5 is all you need) minutes straightening up each room. You'll be amazed the difference it makes - your nose will thank you, your guests will thank you, you mom will thank you, and your garbage man will think that must've been a helluva party you threw the first time you toss out trash!

Have a DIY party and get close friends over to help you. Take a before and after picture and make the event fun..time to get down and dirty. Person who's area looks the best after the cleaning, wins!
