This president's approval ratings have sunk to levels unseen since Richard Nixon.

That's right -- going into his State of the Union speech, George Bush's popularity matches the Republican who became so deeply and universally disliked that he resigned from office. Americans have had it with this president.

Agree. And the rating will only get lower. Bush is in over his head. Only the irrational diehards still support him.

I don't concern myself with polls. My focus is on actions. There are some policies I agree with and some I don't. I judge them each on an individual basis framed by my own personal worldview. The President is not all powerful and while he can influence policy he does not craft legislation. What many fail to realize where polls are concerned is that it only takes one favorable action to change those numbers dramatically. Whether George Bush is popular or not is really irrelevant because he is still the President and will remain so until the end of his term barring a successful impeachment. Further, Richard Nixon did not resign because of his poll numbers. He resigned because he was facing the very real possibility of being righteously impeached and removed from office.

There is still time for them to go lower...The American people spoke out over the Bush Administration last elections. Democrats haven't even had a month in Congress, I expect great things to come of this, and the Democrats to set the record straight this coming year. Bush is in trouble and he knows it too.

I don't really agree with that statement about why Nixon stepped down - because Richard Nixon did not resign the office of the presidency because he was disliked... rather because he had broken the law - impeachment was inevitable... all due to WATERGATE!

President Nixon knew that he had marred the image of the office (of the president) and he stepped down.

This, ALSO, avoided an ugly hearing that would have definitely brought out some much worse scandals he was most likely involved with. The accusations would have been tremendous - and who knows how he could have remained focused.

Overall, he had lost the trust of the Americans - because he was involved in breaking the law with Watergate - to save his skin... he resigned!

It had nothing to do with APPROVAL RATINGS!!!

It has to do with politics, but is a poorly constructed question, since it is a question of fact, and you make it out to be a question of opinion. The FACT (not OPINION) is, no president has had this low of an approval rating THIS FAR into his term in a very long time.

Ever wonder whom they are asking in this so called Poll for ratings. If you ask a Terrorist or a Democrat, why do you get the same response.

No I don,t agree with our president either. We should never have sent our troops to Afganastain, nor I-rak (both intentional). In this time of tech toys we did not need to step on to there soil to initiate the total destruction of either country.
We can still turn this around.

This is not something you "agree with" or "disagree with". The ratings are what they are. But I think all Americans would like to hear anyone's suggestions on how to improve. Simply bashing those who are trying is not helpful.

So what? It was a great State of the Union speech. It's too bad MSNBC had to have their commentary on it. That ruined it for me. I watched the rest of the post-State of the Union stuff on CNN.
Oh, and Nixon didn't resign because he was unpopular, he resigned in order to avoid being impeached. Can't impeach a president just for being unpopular!

Way to go Glory....lol
So he's disliked...SO WHAT. You don't have to be liked to get a job done.
You can run for President at age 35. If you're old enough, why don't YOU run and see how popular you are. That should prove interesting........
