I agree totally, Mike. They are like Man City fans, living off something that happened many many years ago. It makes them bitter because they cannot reproduce it consistently like the others.

A lot of die hard fans will try to convince you that their team is the greatest ever, whoever their team is.
I live in the Midlands and there are WBA fans who still go on about their FA Cup win in 1960-something.
You have to remember that Liverpool dominated English and European football for most of the 1980s and a lot of the 1970s. It's a proud history and of course it's painful to find you're not top-dog anymore.
But they're still a very good team and now, getting better. The two Arsenal games recently (esp. the Carling Cup match) were a set back - the second match was a fluke result, the stats don't show the reality - and I think the fans have a right to be optimistic now. Saturday showed that they can compete with Chelsea, please don't say Chelsea being under-strength, Liverpool were, too.
And, I have seen plenty of Man Utd and Chelsea fans harping on about their glorious teams being unbeatable (Sky text page 459 for a regular dose!). You say Man Utd's finest hour was 1999 - now who's living in the past?
Liverpool's Mickey Mouse Treble - was that the year they won the League Cup, the FA Cup, the UEFA Cup, Charity Shield and the European Super Cup?
(Good luck to Walsall FC for the rest of this season, promotion beckons!!)

I find that the fans of all teams can be equally deluded.
Liverpool ARE the English team who have most recently won the Champions League - the most coveted prize in European football - and it was only a couple of years ago, so if they're "living in the past" then what are Man U and Arsenal fans, whose teams have to go even further back to find any glory worth the name?
That said, Liverpool have clearly underachieved the other three of the "big four" in the league for many seasons now. so claiming they're currently the top English team would be rather silly.
But then I support Watford (having been born in the shadow of the floodlights), so what the hell do I know?

I don't know who you've been talking to, but generally supporting a team will sometimes lead to hyperbole or otherwise where's the fun. The drubbing arsenal gave us was pretty painful, but we beat Chelsea quite convincingly. Any realistic fan will tell you that Liverpool have been a long way from the glory years for well...years. But despite that we have a mixture of fluke and guts which helps us to rake victories out of nothing. See Istanbul. It isn't always beautiful, but you can't deny the excitement.

Chill out! Fans are going to be like that, what really can you do about it? Obviously when our teams loses after doing so well, we're not going to be excited and cheering away and obviously win they win, we are...So, I don't see what the big problem is. And most fans are going to say their team is the best, and it's not just fans of Liverpool, so I guess that's something that you're gonna have to accept. But really, it's not a big deal...

Supporting Rafa when it's a choice between him and the Americans, but not a fan of his rotation policy. Should be beating the lower league teams, instead Liverpool are already out of the running for the league.

The 1999 Man Utd team was definitely the most successful ever. We could all argue about which team was the best ever for days.
In my experience, all of those three clubs have sensible, knowledgable supporters but they also have a percentage of fans who have their heads up their own backsides.
And whilst I'm on the subject, kudos to those Chelsea fans who have been going for years (don't forget, they were pretty cr*p for a long time) & rhubarb to the blow-in fans who now follow them because they have all the cash.

In response to Well Said, Alberto: Well said, Alberto.
As for the question, I agree about Liverpool fans. All we ever hear about is how they "won it five times in Istanbul", which is a load of bollocks. They won it ONCE in Istanbul and four times previously. Stop living on past glories. They're always banging on about Chelsea having no history but until the 1970s neither did they.

OK, so Liverpool have had some bad results of late but dont all great teams suffer at times. You only have to look at Liverpool's record and admire the achievement.

Frankly thats an easy one! Ihear what you're saying about LFC fans. After fluking that Champions League win all we heard was about there European glory, "it'll take Man U 25 years to win 5 european cups". Forgetting to mention its been 19 years since they last won the Title....the trophy any LFC fan would give there right arm for! And how many times have Man U won it in that time not forgetting the unforgettable treble. Dream on Liverpool!
