At her church, it seems that doing what the pastor wants is more important that God's calls to duties in various walks of life. When they're in conflict who do you listen to?

Who is Pastor Melissa Scott, and what is all the controversy about? I have seen a couple of questions posted about her, and I am curious.

Churches are like restaurants. If you don't like the food, you shouldn't go again, and you can tell your friends not to go. But don't keep turning up and moaning that the food is bad. If you keep going to this church, shut up and take whatever this minister is offering.

You know, it makes no difference that I don't know who she is. When ANYONE'S "orders" (or even "suggestions") are not in agreement with God's message of salvation in the Bible, they are placing themselves above God Himself. If YOU are correctly understanding your "duties," as you call them, you are free to lovingly correct this person and do what you know is right. Support your position with what God says. If you're not sure, ask other pastors/teachers who know. You are "made right" with God because Jesus, His Son, suffered and died to take away the guilt of our sins. Therefore, when we try to follow God's way (Love God...and love our neighbor as ourself...), we do this out of love and gratefulness to God for what He's done for us. NOTHING we can "do" (possibly the duties and "what the pastor wants" you've mentioned?) can add anything to our salvation. Only what Jesus Christ has done can make us right with God. Then God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, gives us faith to believe this unbelievable story. This is the most miraculous and wonderful gift. Anyway--don't get hung up on "duties" in order to try to make yourself "worthy" of being saved (nobody is "worthy"), but do what is right because of your gratefulness and love for God, in the light of what God has done for us. And remember: when we blow it (even pastors and teachers), God is faithful and just, forgiving our sins because Jesus has already paid for them for us.
