The 1978 version because there would be no 2004 version without it. It, also, has a sense of humor about itself. The 2004 version is just a little too serious for its own good.

Is the re-imagined series better than the original? Absolutely. At face value, the current series is superior to the original in almost every way. The acting, writing, and direction are all exemplary. The show has received unprecedented critical acclaim, going as far as to win a Peabody award last year. The show is a testament to what can be done when a talented group of people come together and perform with passion and commitment. Much like the X-Files in the early 90's, Battlestar Galactica shines a bright spotlight on science fiction as a whole. Simply being on the air raises the bar for every other genre show in production.

However, I do not think it's entirely fair to compare the original series to the re-imagined one directly. There's thirty years of cultural change separating the two. Societal differences had a dramatic effect on both series. The original Battlestar was made in the afterglow of Star Wars, while the current series was made in the shadow of 9/11.

To take advantage of Skywalker hysteria, the original Battlestar had to have a dashing hero, an elder wiseman, damsels in distress, baddies in shiny suits, and plenty of star fighters on strings. Thirty years ago, Battlestar Galactica was the most elaborate production ever brought to television. Making a somber, allegorical drama was the farthest thing from the producers' minds. To get the show greenlit by the network, it was "Go Big or go home."

Looking back at it now, it's easy to pick the show apart. Sure, some of the acting was wooden, the dialog was hokey, and some of the storylines were almost laughable. But if you view it in the context of a post Star Wars 1970's America, the show makes a lot more sense.

Like many shows immediately, solid television writing addresses character progression. With only 2 episodes of the sequence watched, you're basically slightly scratching the exterior as regards character progression. as quickly as the writers have had the possibility to introduce you to a clean universe of characters (no pun meant), they start to flesh out the sequence by their tale strains. i've got found that i've got been greater fascinated interior the recent characters from the old. i replaced right into a huge fan of the old sequence, yet the two won't be able to learn. the present prepare is greater 3 dimentional writing, while the old prepare replaced into greater 2nd, solid adult males and undesirable adult males. The old Baltar replaced into basically a bad guy. the recent one is a Genius, and is he Insane or somewhat evil? each and every episode makes you ask your self. The old Starbuck replaced right into a Blonde-Haired Dude, authentic to his pal Apollo, had a clever-alecky mouth, and hopped from female to female. the recent Starbuck is a Blonde-Haired Chick, warm, authentic to the fleet, does issues in an unconventional way and has an on back/off back hobby for her pal, Apollo. save gazing, you would be happy you probably did!
