There could be a problem on the circuit board or a bad door switch or the thing that actually moves the latch which is called a wax motor could be bad.

It is not advisable to attempt repairs on your own. You could end up replacing parts that you do not need or breaking or damaging parts that you do need.

Good luck with this! - my set has had issues too. I also bought one of the Gemini cookstoves and when you use the cleaning option - the ovens lock me out until I shut power off at the fuse box, wait 30 min and flip back on! Grrrrrr NO MORE MAYTAG ITEMS FOR THIS GAL !

If this is the top loading machine- I had lots of problems with mine too. It eventually had to be replaced.
