ok. about 3 months ago i bought an extra large "asian red king crab" from my local pet store. he was a big guy. about 3 inches in diameter. ive owned a few of these before and they died. but last night i was going to feed my fish and i saw him. or at least what i think was him. he was all torn up. legs ripped off and shell completely peeled off. my girlfriend flushed him for me. this morning i turned the light on for morning feeding and there he was at the front of the tank walking around eating food from the spaces in the gravel. can someone help please??????

it is nto a wild crab. they are very small crabs. they are tank bred. they are very peaceful. its just another unusual fish to add to an aquarium.

i have a saltwater fiddler crab tank. all crabs molt. molting is when they shed their outer shell to grow larger. this shell has lots of calcium its recommended you let them eat their molt so theyre stronger from the source of calcium it gives. if a crab loses its leg or claws over a few molts it will grow back. for a male the large claw will grow back on the opposite side i have still not found the reason for this though. so next time when he molts be sure to leave the exoskeleton in the tank for him to eat.

Your crab has an exo-skeleton. As he grows he must shed his skin to grow larger. what you flushed away was his discarded old skin.
