The US constitution was created as a document to live and grow along with the country. Has it just become a topic in 8th grade Civics and fodder for lawyers and politicians. We can Pledge Alligence to our flag and the republic for which it stands, we can party hardy every 4th of July and dress our environment all up in red, white and blue. And if some one has a heavy accent we, so called Americans, can feel justified in demanding that "if they can't learn the language, then get the hell out. I'm thinking that if you can't learn the spirit and language of your own constitution and conduct yourself accordingly you don't deserve it and you have no real standing to ***** about ANYONE ELSE. Why are we such a SELF-righteous people expecting others to live up to OUR expectations. Why are we so easily disappointed and ready to take up the role of the downtrodden?

When answering please remember: The United Stated of America -we are a melting pot, a place that offers it's citizens an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. NO WHERE does it say "But only for so long"!
Unless you are of native American ancestry YOU would NOT even be here in the first place without your immigrant forefathers & mothers. Do you suppose natives wanted our ancestors to invade every corner of their world and force them on reservations. They dealt with it and so do we AND we will continue to as long as we are The People of the United States of America. We are not a paradise for folks of the world. Our way of life is a challenge and often a hardship for immigrants. Yet they are willing to sacrifice even their dignity to gain what we generally take for granted, being the "Natives" we assume ourselves to be.
For Shame, for shame, for shame!

I totally agree. Our country is a country of immigrants. The people that wrote the Constitution did not have ancestors who were born in America. The people whose ancestors were native to the country are now treated nearly as badly or as badly as the immigrants. (Don't start whining about the money they get from the casino's either.)

And I "rub elbows" on a daily basis with immigrants from many different countries, and in general they like America- just not the intolerance of some of its people.

It is a matter of respect, when visiting another country it acceptable to speak English. When becoming a citizen it is a requirement to learn the language of the land. The Constitution is interpreted to suit those reading it. The fact is it is "We The People" meaning of U.S.A. not other countries. And if you take the time to rub elbows with most immigrants they have nothing good to say about America or Americans. They are here for purpose of the almighty dollar. Invite someone into your home and listen to them run down you and yours and maybe a sense of pride will evolve from you and you will see the light. Ask questions and see exactly what is out there. And just how much growth can this country take before we are overwhelmed. And don't forget to go to a big city street corner and help your American Vet or the family of four with kids under ten who haven't had a bed to sleep in for months because all the resources have run out for them. Then recite the Constitution to yourself and see how many of the rights have been violated to our tax paying citizens.

Can't help wonder what got into you. Nowhere in the constitution does it guarantee that people can come to our country, force their languages and customs down our throat and suck money out of the budget while doing it. We are not self-righteous people. We are kind, helpful, benevolent and tired of watching America become someone elses country. Check Mexico's immigration policy. They are much more rigid in what they expect but you seem to think it is unreasonable for me to want to speak to an English speaking person when doing business. Well, I think it is ridiculous that we have school aged children who can't speak English and well and parents who don't seem to think learning the language is important.

America is very widely opened. The Statue of Liberty stands for our Poor, Sick, Weak, Hungry and prosperity at first between U.S. and France the it became very widely opened to all Country's as well./
That is why America is there to help when Mother Nature or War breaks them so.

I was born in France and live in America all my life and the sytem works, but for those repsonsible who create them fail to ackowledge the kick back and resolutions to their product.

When one fails the other climbs known in America as the ballance scale.

Why do Harvard, and Princeton graduates fail to understand what ballance means in Congress and there is slightly no idea it exhists until you push their button and then all of a sudden Congress switches and turn against President Bush when they were all for it before writing out checks.

My idea of Congress is a bunch of cowards that run where you run and hide when you hide. All of them are COWARDS

Bush has found out he has no friends and has been taken to the cleaners.
End of Story

It has at present come to my interest that I truly seek for no longer something yet justice. something of this answer is centred completely on faith, no longer because of the fact I harbor any ill-will in direction of it yet because of the fact it complains a lot. what's ironic, however, is that it hasn't made even a single concrete suggestion for progression or pointed out a single subject with the device because it exists on the instant. permit me end by skill of asserting that i understand that what I even have written in this answer will deliver many readers (extraordinarily any who're huge followers of religion) right into a tizzy or a tantrum. i'm sorry, yet I remind them that some poxy adulterers are hopelessly tetchy.
