By their pseudo behaviours.
In Psychology, we say it a compensation mechanism called "Defence Mechanism" adopted by the mind to safeguard from their troubled and inadequate mind to maintain equilibrium and remain sane. In limited measure, it is healthy to have such behaviour.
But if these tendencies are on the higher side in a person, it is a clear symptom of mental illness. The individual is totally unaware of this personality problem but causing nusance to all others. There is no cure to these people, to my knowledge and so one has to tactfully avoid such persons if she or he wants to remain sane.

Because we are all human and bound to screw up on occassion. The best we can hope for is that we do not fail too often or make the same mistakes over and over again. Be ready to forgive others easily, for I promise one day soon you will need their forgiveness too.
