try contacting someone involved in the portable antiquities scheme in your area look at http://www.finds.org.uk/ it's a scheme set up to help archaeologists register finds across the UK that have come from metal detecting, gardening, etc or like your one just found by chance. they usually have meetings now and then where people bring in what they've found and the local archaeologist will identify it, record it photograph it and enter it into a database. if it's worth something they can help you get some payment for it, but don't expect too much! good luck.

there are some very repuatable coin reroducers out there, who would be able to date it for you and everything. Im a member of a historical re-enactment group, and we have our own coin striker, or moneyer as we call him, and he is absolutely excellent on coins, and the dating of. He has done alot of work for the british museum, and various archaelogical trusts.
Someone of this caibre, will be of more use to you, than an antique dealer. They are only out for profit, whereas the coin enthusiasts, do it for the love of their hobby.
reply to this post, should you require the contact details of the moneyer, that i know.
Hope this helps.

Look on the coin collectors websites for info about removing the dirt but leaving the patina. Once cleaned you will have a better chance of finding out what it is.

It's not a coin. My guess is that it's a religious medallion. Just bring it to an antique dealer and they'll tell you what it is and how much it might be worth

It's a New York subway token. Someone probably lost it or tossed it. It has no value other than as a curiosity.
