In the UK you can contact 'mail preference' and stop junk mail. You can also do it for your phone.

Beware though, there is a 'mail preference' company that sends out consumer surveys, if you fill that in your junk mail will be never ending.

You cannot stop it, and the sign just shows that you do not know that, and gives your carrier a "laugh a day". You can slow it down, by writing each and every sender, telling them you do not want mail from them. Sounds like it would be more productive to purchase a good shredder, and put the offending junk mail through it as a daily meditation. Perhaps some stress management therapy would also benefit you. there are much larger things to be concerned about, that is advertisement, the sender pays for it, you mail is delivered for free, and is a complimentary service.

PS: In the USA, ONLY the mail carrier, on behalf of the Postal Service, has the right to place items in you mail receptacle, is someone driving down the street is putting advertisements in your box, they are breaking the law, and the fine is $300 plus postage per piece. Much unlike Australia

There are two sorts of junk mail: those that get sent through the postal service to "The Householder". I don't get so many that I really mind them. (And there is something called the Yellow Envelope that has such remarkable junk in it, that I find it rather amusing.) I would suggest that you write to whoever sent them, and tell them that getting junk mail really annoys you, and that, on principle, you won't buy their stuff.

Then there are the other sorts of junk mail, the catalogues, and flyers &c, that are not delivered by the postal service. There is a fun way of dealing with these. Print up some letters that say something along the lines of, "I have a notice on my letter box saying, "No junk," because I don't want any junk mail. Since your delivery contractor chose to ignore my wishes, I am sending this back to you, without a stamp." You then put the catalogue or whatever in an envelope along with your letter, address it to the company whose goods it is advertising, seal it up, and DO NOT PUT YOUR ADDRESS ON IT. Then you post it. At least in Australia, the post office has to deliver it, but they charge the recipient twice what they'd have charged you to send it. Some of those catalogues are quite big, and there is nothing to stop you investing in oversided envelopes... I carried out a campaign of doing that a few years ago, and I think a few other people must have done something similar, and the amount of junk mail reduced markedly.

Good luck, and have fun!

Not a lot really....as long as your name and address is on the envelope the postman will always deliver them through your door. You could move to another house....but that wont always work. There are some crafty spies out there thats watching you as I am beginning to learn about myself. I have been sent a lot of junk mail from an american based company. they've sent me letters and forms and tell me that by their computer have picked me out on many addresses as a winner of more than two million pounds. All I have to do is send them a cheque for £20 to be processed but I have been caught out before by their confidence tricks...and they wont catch me out again.

I believe there is a form available from the post office that you can fill in to remove your address from getting junk mail, phone your local office and check. i don't bother cos i just throw mine in recycling bin. Its like the TPS on telephones, since i did that i can eat my dinner in peace without getting harassed about a new kitchen or double glazing! (TPS=Telephone Preference service. add your phone number and no more sales calls, google it)

Nope, nothing. You can try signing up for the Mail Preference Service, which will stop some, but you'll never stop them all.

The post office has to deliver it. Contact the offending senders of the mail and tell them to stop sending it, and/or send it all back to them in their postage paid return envelopes..
