I know its no ones business but her own,but what do you guys think about the fact that Kim is choosing to retire and leave the game of tennis forever so she can(in her own words)"get married, start a family, become a housewife, and look after him"? I think its possible for her to do both, and shes only 23 and in the prime of her career, but whatever floats her boat.

I did say she can do both, and since you are a father ...you should know more than i do that one does not have to sacrifice their entire career to raise children well.Granted many parents do not spend enough time with their kids, and choose work over their kids...but doing both can be done, because its proven for its done every day.How many professional athletes have children?I think if soldiers who have children can fight overseas,im pretty sure people could manage a career, and children. But more power to Kim for making the choice that she feels works for her.

She's going to be a great loss. It's nice to see a player of her character playing at such a high level.

I can 100% understand her desire to leave the game. Tennis at that level is an unimagineable level of activity and stress year round. Working out, practicing, travelling, competing, managing your diet, managing your calendar, and many other things are a constant grind. Not to mention the constant scrutiny she's under for her successes and failures. We see how much she's criticized even for her past love venture with Hewitt (He's a pretty cool mate anyways! Feisty player, what's not to like?).

You've really got to be 100% committed to tennis as a career. She's always been criticized for her shot selection and not living up to her true potential. Well, her desire to be something else other than a tennis player really puts her on-court mental struggles into perspective.

She's accomplished more than 99.9% of the players to ever play the game ever have. Held the #1 ranking AND won a Grand Slam. Earned a great living. And judging by her character, I imagine she's saved the majority of it. So she's set for life. At age 23, most women in the world are either presently thinking the same thing, or see those goals in their near future.

She will feel a huge relief once she's a few months past her last match. She's such a neat and genuine person, I think no one else deserves the peace she's going to find! We should all wish her the best!

I cannot believe you just said she can do both. Pro tennis is a grueling schedule, you literally play tennis every day and travel constantly, no way you can be a mother to your children and do that ! She could wait a little while longer to become a mom if she wanted to but I guess with all the injuries, she has had enough, and has saved or invested her money wisely. Being a mom is a full time job for infants to age 12 or so, that is why so many women quit their jobs to stay "home", although they spend alot of time taking the kids to playgroups, or little gyms, or birthday parties, or part-time church schools, or run errands with them, so there is alot of time out of the house, so the term "stay-at-home-mom" is misleading. I am a dad by the way, I see this first hand. Any woman who decides to be a stay-at-home-mom is doing the right thing, the kids develop with better manners and intellect generally speaking.

I think that Kim feels as though she has reached potential with her game and she has had a good career in pro tennis being ranked no1 in the world in 03. Now finishing the aus open at no.4.
If this is what she wants to do and what she thinks will make her happy, then by all means she should do it.
Although, it doesnt mean she cant return to tennis later... look at martina hingis who has just returned to tennis and made the quarter finals of a grand slam.

You will be missed Kimmy!

I was a bit of shocked when she revealed this 2005, right after winning the US Open!!! At that time, I took it to be a good joke, but she is really willing to start a new life. Well, she is an awesome tennis player but probably she is probably an even more awesome housewife, and she enjoys it. She has got to live her life her own way, and not continue tennis just because a lot of guys are going to miss her.

I think that it is a wise decision as she is not just thinking about her short term future in tennis and the glory, but how her life would be if she played on. Her body obviously is not built to play like she does. If she played on she would struggle wih her injuries later in life.
I'll miss you Aussie Kim

If that is what she wants, then so be it. More power to her. Thank god she has the choice. Some places would not have given her the same opportunities as she has had. Good for her.

As far as I'm concerned, she'd be a foreign housewife.

If she has enough money to retire and go make babies and live in suburbia, who am I to say her nay?
