I have a Dell Dimension 5100 (1 year old) and would like to upgrade the graphics card. However, i've been told that this model is fitted with an integrated graphics accelerator, even though i understood it to have a Radeon X300, which means i can't fit a card to the current motherboard. Is this true?
Any help would be gratefully received

You're computer may be using onboard integrated video but it would also have a port for a video card as well. Most likely a pci-express bus but double check that with the system info. You won't have any trouble upgrading...just need to find out if you have agp or pci bus for video and purchase a compatible card

I had a similar problem when I wanted to upgrade a while ago.

I found that my motherboard had additional slots for a PCI graphics card. However it did not have any spare AGP slots because that was taken up by the built in graphics card.

So my answer to your question is that you will probably be able to put in a new graphics card. However you first need to look inside the case and/or the manuel to see what slots are available and then get the appropriate card.

Also you may have problems getting your system to use the new graphics card rather than the old one. I think we got around this by selecting the PCI option in the bios. However in my computers setting it assumed I had two monitors, one for each graphics card.

Good luck

all mobo's come with a second graphics card slot (PCI or PCI-e)
so all u need to do is get a pci or pci-e card but if you have a small case then dont worry cos it comes with a smaller part for the end but as far as i know every mobo has a second graphics card slot

(advice neva buy from dell they may be cheap but the not reliable and they intergrate as much as possible the only thing u might want intergrated on a PC is maybe your sound card)

You should be able to get a PCI or AGP card.

Have a Dell with a Nvidia PCI..works flawlessly.

Hi, I find that the Dell online customer service/chat is excellent. I had the same problem trying to figure out my computer's configuration, and their chat is available 24/7 and they have your entire computer configuration available to them and can help you out. Take care! :-D
