...their country gives them the right to carry guns?!
The contestants seem to range from a bit weird, through loony and deranged to a few who appear psychopathic, with not that many 'normal', and who can sing...
Can you imagine some of them with a gun?

Auntie - watched it for the 1st time yesterday. It's certainly entertaining, but not sure about 'liking' it... was hoping to see some amazing undiscovered singers; doesn't feel right to 'mock the afflicted'.

Sarch, sadly there ARE a lot of Jades about in the UK. I don't know if that lot are typical, it was a question.
I've been to Florida which was full of nice oldies, apart from in Disney (nice families).

Um, I don't think they're representative of the whole country: these types of programme tend to attract a certain type of person - someone who wants to be famous (these people are not necessarily the sharpest tools in the box)... and maybe the odd one or two with a talent....hopefully!

Thinking that the people who appear on that show are typical Americans is like saying that Jade Goody is typical of all who inhabit the British Isles...(can you imagine her with a gun)....a bit of a ridiculous generalisation and insulting to the majority of people in both countries.

first off its not like we carry guns around all over the place or you'd have seen Simon get shot by now in order to get a gun in America you must (legally) submit to a background check and if your a criminal you'd never get one where do you live that's so perfect and no there not typical Americans they are usually kids and most of them are trying to get on TV i personally think its funny if you don;t like it don't watch it most of the contestants on idol would be too stupid to fill out the paper work required to get a gun so don't worry about it...

First of all they go through a pre-screening and many GOOD SANE people are turned away because guess what? that's boring. They put weirdos and delusional people through for entertainment and ratings.
And as far as guns you have to get a license and have a background check... you don't just get "handed a gun".
I support 2nd amendment freedoms.

I hate to say this but Canadian Idol is the same, with the same type of people. Thank goodness we have gun control because we have our own Simon and his name is Zack.

I had a 357 magnum in S-Africa and felt quite safe with it. Never got the chance to use it , don't actually know how i would have felt should i have shot someone but you have to have a weapon to protect yourself. I am a good shot and a responsible person but should anyone have touched my kids i would have shot them without feeling a thing.

I lived there for 27 years and yes, it is a scary reality. Anyone, no matter how crazy or angry can just go to the nearest store and buy a death bringer.

That guy "Red" was a real weirdo, but I thought Simon was cruel to the young guy by comparing him to a monkey because of his big eyes.
