Sometimes the knots in the bark look like faces, which can be spooky in the forest sometimes.
I suppose there is no need for them to have a face as their nutrition comes to them from the sky, air and earth, and they don't need to see where they are going :)
I found some links showing pics of trees with faces, too.

A 'face'is just a human way to desribe a group of distinguishing features that we use to recognise each other.
On this basis, you could say a Leopards 'face' is it's spots, a birds 'face' is it's feather patterns.
And a Trees face is its Bark Pattern, Leaf coulour or maybe it's brach formation?
When i finally crack speeking tree'ese i will let you know ; )

I myself have ever wondered about that too. Yet, I have a hunch: Trees don´t have faces for the same reasons that compell a piece of strawberry pie not to attack humans in broad daylight.

To me they do since I started really looking, with awakened consciousness.
Eyes are easy to spot on the bark knots.
We got more in common that we think with the trees. The ramifications of our veins where blood flows are the same as the ramifications of their branches, where the sap flows within too!
They are the symbol of wisdom and also strongly connected with the divine with their branches-hands stretched into Father Sky and their roots-feet stretched into Mother Earth, tapping both energies and transmutting them...tree-huggers do know what they're all about!
Try a tree meditation, choose one that is "calling" you, acknowledge its spirit as you enter its aura and sit with your back against its bark, close your eyes and connect within...see how your feelings evolve ;-)
I've loved the book " Healing Energies of the trees" by P.Bouchardon, quite scientific and down-to-earth, giving us back the lost knowledge of working in synergy with Nature.

Because they are plant life, not animal life - their evolution has taken a different path in terms of the functions that a face carries out.
