I want to install more RAM in my computer which currently has 256mb DDR and has a 2.8Ghz processor. I was thinking of taking RAM from my old PC and installing it my current one.

I know how to fit it and do all the hands on stuff but after you have fitted the RAM does anything have to be done to configure it?

Or does the computer automatically start using it?

just check if you are using the same types of both rams. that's all.. no need to configure, just make sure they're both DDR or SDRam

If it is the same number of pins and same type of ram and it is balanced, the computer will detect it without any action on your part.

If its plug and play, you shouldn't have to do anything. However you may want to make sure the memory is compatible with the new computer.
