It is a great career if you are willing to work hard at it. Otherwise, it is an excellent side-job or hobby. It all depends on what you put into it. Contrary to popular opinion, you DO NOT have to have ANY inventory, but it does help. But, it's not required. You don't have quotas or territories. You make a 50% profit on all sales. You can sell from a catelog and then order the product, or you can have inventory on hand.
Yes, you can profit a lot from it. I have NO recruits and make enough from my sales to pay my car payment, all the month's gas and for the month's groceries (family of 4, 2 kids, 2 cars).
If you are willing to put forth the effort, then you should definately do it! It's such a great company and with the 90% buy-back guarantee, you don't have to worry about being out of a lot of money if it doesn't work out.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me!

My mother used to sell MK. Their products are fantastic, but be careful and do not let a MK rep talk to you into anything or have you sign any papers until you are SURE you want to pursue this avenue.
You will make a 50% profit on products to start. Meaning, if you sell a bottle of makeup that is $30, you will make $15. However, keep in mind that you have to buy the product first for the $15. I know this is still how they operate because I had a MK party a few months ago, and my friend was interested in selling and the MK rep told us all of this. It is just like when my mom sold. So, you have to sink a lot into the products before you can get any return on your investment. Also keep in mind that just because you buy a group of products, that doesn't mean anyone will buy them. You could end up with a lot of bottles of makeup collecting dust.
The only way to truly make a ton of $$$ and get that pink caddy that they get, is to recruit people who will work under you. This is how people get ahead in these kinds of businesses (Mary Kay, PartyLite Candles, etc.) You have to be extremely aggressive and spend most of your time trying to recruit others to work under you. When you form a "team"...you earn a percentage of their sellings. This is exactly how it works and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The more people you recruit, the bigger your checks will become. Some directors I know in MK and in PartyLite only have to sell so much products and do so many shows each month to "keep" their "status"...but they are basically living off the commission checks of those who are recruited "below" them. Like I said DO NOT let anyone tell you otherwise or make it sound like it is an easy job. It is NOT an easy job at all (I used to sell PartyLite so I know a thing or two about this subject!)
Yes MK is a fantastic brand. I still use their products and they are of high quality. I still use PL for that matter too. I am not knocking these companies by any means! Both are wonderful avenues for women to become independent and self-sufficient but it is not always an easy road to take. Be prepared to work a lot of hours to get started in this type of business. You are going to need to make many, many connections in your community and do a lot of "shows" so that you can get yourself out there. Just remember that there are probably already a lot of MK reps in your area that are already taking up a lot of business. If you talk to a MK rep ASK HER how many there are in your area. You will want to know this and make sure that where you live is not already saturated with reps.
Hope that helps!

i have 2 friends who do it. one made it her career, the other has lost money doing it. so it varies greatly. the one who is doing well with it is a pushy person, who goes up to strangers in a store and sells them stuff. i know i could never be like that, but she says that what it takes to make a living on it. so if you think you have it in you to be a assertive sales person than go for it. i wouldn't quit the job you currently have or anything until you found out if it was right for you.

I guess it's ok for bringing in pocket change, but remember this, that you have to sell an awful ot of cosmetics to make any real money. The lot of a salesperson is NOT an easy one.You get more doors slammed in your face than sales.

Are you a good sales person, do you have the right personality and the self discipline and the do you have any business sense? That will answer your question. My aunt sells tupperware and makes decent money off of it. (she's not rich, and she's married and so they have two incomes. I don't know how much she actually makes). Good luck.
