I can think of reasons why it is bad but not good.

if it's money the players receive than i don't think many people would turn it down and say it was bad, but if its money across the industry, than one good point is that it is being invested in kids/youth for sport meaning that we do not end up with a nation of overweight/obese people.

Money in itself is not ruining football. The real issue here is greed. Since the early 90s, top clubs have manouevered themselves into a position where all the cash stays at the top of the game. The result? Football is over as a sport. In the first year of The Premiership Norwich City finished third. Can you imagine that happeneing now? Champions League and TV revenue means the Big Four are now untouchable. The gap between Premiership and Football League is so gargantuan that the English league structure, the envy of the world, will be gone within the next 10 years. We'll be left with an elite 2 division mega buck league and a bunch of part-time non-league clubs. I've done a lot of research into this subject for my book [Prawns in the Game] and one thing is clear - football fans need to wake up and try and reclaim the game from the money men before it is too late. The question is: can anybody be bothered? Apathy reigns, football dies and the rich are looking pretty smug at the top end of The Premiership.

The wages of footballers, however unfair and undeserving it m,ay seem ,is the ultimate symbol of capitalism and the free market.

If the said players didnt generate the money in the first place then obviously they couldnt be paid such amounts.I have no problem with this because it is paid for privately.

I am more concerned with the relatively small salaries of those on local council administrations, especially in labour councils, where 5 people do the job one could do.Where pointless jobs are invented and filled by useless ppl.All at the taxpayers and council taxpayers cost.

first of all you have to realise that sadly football is not just a sport anymore it's a business. the footballers get paid so much because they work for these huge business empires- the clubs. the clubs make money from the players' success on the pitch and also from the merchandise they can sell with the players image/name on it, such as jerseys, posters, calendars etc etc they make money from television viewing rights for the matches and ticket sales at the grounds so they naturally pay big money to get and to keep the players that people want to see. whatever they pay the players you can be sure that the clubs still have plenty of profit for themselves.

You are falling into the trap of looking at the tip of the ice-burg & not seeing the bigger picture. It is only the top 5% of footballers that are paid the sort of wages you are refering to. Many more players in the lower leagues are struggling to make ends meet on £15-25k a year, I speak from experience!

i have no idea why footballers are paid at all. what you have to remember is that hundreds of males decided that at some point they had no desire to work and so decided to piss about with their hobby i.e.football. some plonker then said i think they should be paid and then all hell let loose. i used to think i used to do a worthwhile job in the NHS but what a waste of my life when i now know i could have stood in the middle of a field kicked a ball to my mate and earned 150,000 pounds a week.they run onto the pitch on saturdays look at the crowd who often earn a basic wage and think how much more money they can screw out of them but the crowds allow it to happen they do not complain. WHY?.finally teams should only have players staff and managers who are born and bred in that town they should not be allowed to employ mercanaries to do the dirty work for them hence no transfer fees, agents and so no bungs and other monetary irregularities.

i love football with the next guy but i don't bother to go to a match now and it is because the punters are stupid enough to pay exorbitant admission charges that the guys on the pitch can hold their hand out for the massive payout

I think it's not possible to buy great players or players of your choice that can make up a good team if you don't have money that's why it's important to have cash.

If clubs like Madrid, Milan, Man U, Chelsea are where they are today it is because they can afford to buy one of the best in the world.

Thanx!

I think they are paid so much because, not only do they get hurt some times, but it is supposed "top of the job line" when they become famous and have to prance around in tiny shorts.
