Maybe not this summer but definitely looking forward to it in the not-too distant future, after some of the stuff the Israelis blew up has been rebuilt and the current Hizbollah/government tension has subsided a bit.
Lebanon is the birthplace of European civilisation, with great archaeology, all sorts of terrain from mountain to beaches, food, and hospitality, plus some of the hottest women in the world, if you're interested...
I'm getting some people together who might be interested, including a couple of Arabic speakers, and my Scottish mate John.
His main reason for going is being able to contradict people when they say "Oh, it's like Beirut!" with the line "I've been to Beirut and this is nothing like Beirut."

I'm definitely planning to go. I have been there 7 or 8 times before and I just love the city. I've been there twice already since the 2006 war. Beirut is set in a wonderful landscape, it has friendly people, tasty food and a vibrant night life!
The political situation is a bit messed up at the moment (as it has been for the last 50 years), but from my personal experience I can say as a tourist you are pretty safe there. Even now. Just avoid the opposition camps in downtown or political demonstrations and you should be fine.

The 2006/2007 Thomas Cook Signature brochure for Africa and the Middle East features Beirut in Lebanon. The city had also featured on BBC's Holiday program last year.
It was an up and coming city to visit until the bombing started. Now all tourist travel has been suspended. It was such a shame because it seemed like a lovely city to explore. The people of Beirut had invested millions into attracting tourists with new hotels, casino and spa's.

When it comes to Lebanon who can plan anything for next week? let alone in 5 or 6 months...
If there is still a Lebanon, I'm hoping to be there in May on my way to a business trip to Europe.

I'd like to! Was there last April and LOVED it. I especially loved coming back to the States and correcting everyone who thought it wouldn't be worth visiting - were they ever wrong! A few pages of my 500 pictures quickly set them straight :)
