The world has fitted us with the circumstances that teaches us not to share, so that we can know how to share ultimately.
The world shows us contradictions, so that we may master the principles of contradiction.
In this world, we must abide the laws here : we are to share or we had better, yet we are not to share or had better not !
The mastership rests with negotiation and mitigation midst the moment we are confronted with contradiction, and in which, given the circumstance before us, we succeed at neutrality as the finished result. For all life here on Earth does not found on right and wrong but rather what is apt for the mass and collective of individuals, without which adherence to can cause inconceivable destruction. That is, what may be apt for one person, may be horrendous for millions.
This is why sharing is a most important ingredient, and why such things as copyrights serve as crucial ingredients as grounders for the opposite of sharing. The differences are the catalysts for movement toward mastership of the contradiction of whether to share or not to share.

You can get the expression of an idea copyrighted thru the library of congress for $10 and a stamp (Price might have gone up a few bucks in last decade?).
But even then....
I'm writing a book write now that I think is based on a unique idea or has many concepts that I have never run across before; and I'm scarred of talking about them on the net for fear that someone will beat me to the punch. Its not that my goal is to write a book that will sell a million+ copies, but what if it could? Yeah, I want to be compensated for all the time and effort I've put into developing it if I can. I have no problem sharing credit and $ with anyone who also came up with idea on their own, but I don't want to just hand over all my effort so someone else can get $ or even credit for my work.
I don't feel all that bad that I am holding back information; its not like any idea is going to change the world over night. It'll get out there sooner or later. But I want it to be my expression, that I've worked so hard on, to succeed. Its like a child; I want 'my' kid to succeed.
But, on the other hand, I do sneak some of the idea/notion into net discussions to get feed back and to see how others respond to it; but only in a way that they probably wouldn't grasp the overall notion.
This may sound paranoid to others, but our time and effort are rightfully valuable to us. I could be out doing just about anything else with that time with immediate gratification.
Sorry, if I am rambling on but I really relate to your question. I also have no definitive answers just offering moral support.
Hey, maybe we both have the same idea. lol.

There is nothing new under the sun. No person today can have an original thought. We stand upon the shoulders of those who have gone before us. We take their ideas (which were not original) and build more onto them. Copyright infringement is only a concern if the motive is to gain from using the exact product of another. If you want to protect your precise product or idea, it is possible to obtain a patent.

Siftware and operating systems have been answering this question for a few years now.
Its called opensource software and was born of Unix/ Linux project .
Forget windowze and its bloated virus laden , trojan magnet system and it multi disgustingly obsenely over wealthy APPLE system thief Bill Gates and get an operating system that lest you have whatever desktop you want for FREE , you can even change the system to suit yourself.
It is called the GNU public licence, only thing you have to do ....is use it , share it and
give it away.
This stuff is free, wach videos , have a complete office suite that competes with Office , including Excel. Have a word processor, games , listen to music, watch dvds ,
streaming radio.surf the Net , full email clients, its all there.
If it can be done on windo$e it can be done on linux. For the newby try fedora core 3, its easier to use and install than windowze.
BEST OF ALL IT IS FREE AND COPYRIGHT FREE ,TOTALLY

In general, "knowlegde" can't really be copyrighted can it? I mean things like internal combustion engines run on gasoline is knowledge. Am I violating some sort of copyright law by filling up by gas tank?
If you mean created works such as art or literature, then get with the person that created it and tell them quit being so greedy.

I'm not sure what your question is. You can't copyright ideas, equations, thoughts, names, data, or things that should be patented. However, you can copyright websites, news articles, books, musical recordings, video recordings, photos, designs, computer programs, and most artwork. I don't think most copyright holders mind if you use there work so long as you credit them or quote them and put a link to their website on your website (if you have one) so long as you don't make a profit from their work.

*edit: Okay. Check around these websites and see if a similar work to yours has already been copyrighted:

This is a very deep question, it deserves Plenty of STARS .....
You are digging into the genesis of HUMAN GREEDNESS & EXCLUSIVE KNOWLEDGE...
My friend, in this Material World of ours, you cannot get it...
Dont be surprised at all, but for your kind information I happen to have read it once and ensured it was a fact that ISLAM actually urges people to share knowledge and not to keep it discrete or exclusive to certain people, and that it has to be shared all over for the best of humanity....
Moreover, ISLAM warns its own followers & people in general of so doing with some sort of scary punishment; i.e., masked on the mouth with fire...
Imagine if such knowledge available like Free Air is available to all people, wouldn't you think the world will be straightened out...
Just give it a little thought...

There is a difference between share and sell. If you are trying to sell you definitely need a copyright. If you are trying to share, just do it! Oh wait, is that copyrighted?
