Because
1-they want that others will help them when they are inneed.
2-just for God's Pleasure.

I think one of the reasons is concerned with what we have been taught/brought up by our parents, then at school by our teachers at all levels of education. One of the key issues is of course how we should help those in need so that we learn how to help people or contribute some assistance to the community where we live or serve. Finally, I'm sure we learn from our religions regarding such help to one another, for instance, in Buddhism, whenever one helps others, he/she would acquire 'merit' or innate pleasure in doing anything worth helping.

The soul is an existence, which is bounty writ large. Of itself it has no recourse but to outflow, which in the world we know, is demonstrated in the form of Giving, and in the highest worlds equals what the Gods call Love.
Thus, soul is doing no more than abiding its own nature, it is natural for it to outflow and not obstruct that which passes through it unceasingly, and in which it knows is the least path of resistance, and the most economical in all respects.
For witness that those who prevail against helping and giving find themselves in the very thick of hard work and pain -- if not now, then certainly eventually. There is no exception.

We derive pleasure in helping others because:
1. We feel that we've done something good and worthwhile.
2. Our religious and /or family upbringing taught us to help others so when we do that, we feel proud that we've been true to our values.
3. It gives us a sense that we are capable. Only capable people can help others. It gives us a sense of accomplishment.
4. Most of the times, people who receive our help show their sincere appreciation for our deeds. Being appreciated by others gives us pleasure.
5. Besides the recipients of our deeds, others also show recognition for what we've done and that further enhances our self esteem.

I wouldn't really say 'pleasure' . I find happiness helping people because it's just there in my heart. I don't like to see people suffer when they don't deserve to.e.g. impoverished children, malnourished people fron third world countries, and people in africa is a sad scene. If i we're in a better position, i would be helping them too.Helping other people makes me feel light hearted, i know i will have better chances in after-life not being thrown in the lake of fire.

Unselfishness, aside from parental instinct, is not altogether natural; other persons are not naturally loved or socially served. It requires the enlightenment of reason, morality, and the urge of religion, a God- knowingness, to generate an unselfish and altruistic social order. Is altruism-service of one's fellows- desirable? Then must life experience provide for situations of social inequality.
Does this help or are my motives purely self -serving? Maybe both?

Because people are generally selfish. So whenever they get the chance to do a little help they jump into action. They do so for the following reasons,
1. to make themselves and others believe that they are good
2. to get attention and appreciation
3. to make friends

I think it gives us a feeling of affection and concern towards that person--an attitude of well wishing which is active and therefore alive and full, not just an empty platitude.
