Its possible that your Pc's (not the laptop, right?) network adapter is disabled. Look in "My Network Places", clck on "view connections" and make sure there is an icon for an Local Area Adapter and it is ENABLED. If not, right click on the icon and click ENABLE.
If you don't have an icon for the Local area network, you may need to reload the dirvers for the ethernet adapter. Those would be the first things to try, or look for. If the adapter IS enabled, then try reseting the router.

I had the same problem on a friends computer, and personally have the same router. If your connection icon in the system tray is connecting but with an error, i found this to be a fault with the network adaptor and windows conflict, for some reason it was not assigning an ip address as it should.
check this first, however if you are getting no connectivity at all i would first try things as basic as trying different cables, then looking into settings on your router.

Kate, it sounds like your PC has an internet connection disabled. I have a similar router.
Try this:
Start - Control Panel - Network connections. Here you should see at least 1 connection icon. Mine says "Ethernet" (for example). RIGHT click on the icon and select ENABLE. If there are more than 1, enable them all. You can turn them off 1 by 1 later to figure out which one you need to have enabled. You may have to power down the modem/router and the PC to get things to sync back up.

you have the same router as me.
To log on your router's webpage 192.168.1.1 type in "admin" for username and also password or leave them blank. Which ever logs you in.
Click Start in the toolbar at bottom of your screen and then click Connect to and then Show all connections.
Is your ethernet NIC enabled from there?
If not then connect your ethernet cable and go to Add Hardware in Control Panel and select Ethernet NIC.
I prefer Belkin routers to LinkSys

I am having the same problem. I read another set of directions that is telling me to connect all of them together once with USB cables to configure my network for a one time only thing, then hit the reset button on my router. I haven't tried it yet. I just got the other USB cable for short money at Radio Shack.

You might have to connect directly to the router to configure it the first time, but you should be good to go after that.
