Just to be different I will suggest Microsoft's Virtual Earth, it is the same deal as Google Earth but I think the resolution on remote areas is far better.

There are sites which you can visit to get different views from space i used to use the weather sats to check on preditctions but they also have a real time view of the planet from space the only problem is you cant view the planet as a whole. I wouldnt use google as it isnt real time, As I have checked on my old address and things are still the same as when i lived there and my car was still in the drive, so it isnt a real time viewer.

Google Earth is immense, failing that, you can use 'Visual Earth' - Microsoft's version of Google Earth... it's not as popular, but many argue it's easier to use...
If neither of these float your boat, you can check out the NASA website, it has loads of satellite photos available to the public...

At the risk of sounding like a broken record...
Google Earth is 2 terrabites of high resolution satellite imagery at your finger tips, and has the funkiest search engine, allowing you to locate any place, anywhere, in probably any country (I've not tried everywhere) on Earth.
It even gives you relief and political lines, as well as buildings and whatever else.
