"My fellow Americans, we are about to enter into a war with Iraq. However, this will not be like any recent war we have fought. We will not stop our offensive until all targets of terrorism and all those associated with terrorism have been destroyed. Millions of lives will be lost in Iraq, many of them innocent people, but we must do this in order to protect ourselves. This war will be ugly, we will be made to look bad by other countries for not showing mercy; however it is the only way to secure peace."

Your thoughts?

I think people are missing the point here. We may be gullible at times, and a combination of fear and pride can cloud our thinking, but, for the most part, we are good hearted. President Bush frightened us with WMD's ...the "mushroom cloud" He appealed to our generosity ...the gift of democracy for the Iraqi people!.. If he had taken the approach in your question, people would NOT have accepted it. We would NOT have allowed the invasion of Iraq. Iraq would now have relative peace and security under a brutal, secular dictator, who would be behaving himself because the weapons inspectors, the UN, and the world would be watching. Iraq might now be developing a thriving tourist industry based on its archaeological treasures.

The same thing ! The first guestion would be : are there weapons of mass destruction in Iraq ? The answer from the Bush administration would have been the same : yes there are. Then we wouldn't have found any. Since we were fighting an unjust war we would still have alot of disapproval for the war.

~Those would have been lies as well. The way this has been approached, there will always be terrorism brewing in Iraq.
We've shown nothing but mercy, too much mercy!
There will never be "secure peace."
Any approach he made or would have made would have been deceiving, that's his MO.~

I think they should split Iraq into three seprate countries. The people there obviously hate each other, why make them share one government? Maybe then, things will calm down. Besides, our terrorist threat lives in Afghanistan, not Iraq. They are only a threat to themselves.

That is what we should have done and the Iraq war would be long over now. We could have done this with just massive air strikes so we would have lost very few of our fine young people. What we have now is what you get when you try to be nice.

The Turks have bases interior Northern Iraq, and that they have had them because of the fact the Gulf conflict. Yep, it is top. We rather lots controled Northern Iraq purely before the invasion with our air help and enforced no-fly zone, Turkish floor troops, and CIA brokers.

Much of that is what he said. I think in his heart he thought the war would be over quickly. The Middle East will never be peaceful. Too many different factions want what's best for them.

If winning the war on terrorism means millions must die then so be it. After all, "where's there's doubt, there is no doubt", and people from "that" part of the world have proven time and time again we have every justifiable cause for doubting the authenticity in their wanting to blend in with westerners. In regards to innocents being killed - their women voluntarily give birth to their terrorist partner's children who they KNOW will be hip-deep in terrorist training by the age of, what, 10?? Innocents?? Innocent of what??? Forget about being made to look bad by other countries, who cares...people like that are the first to sniffle like a baby when they get "bitten" by what the USA and its allies are trying to eradicate, and guess who they're likely to turn to for help??
24 hours after September 11, all the sand in that part of the world should have been instaneously transformed into a 20-foot thick sheet of glass...period! What's it going to be....them or us??
--- Ally to the United States. And damn proud of it! ---
