Just like any other country, we have our idiots.
But a large part of the problem is that you are getting your information from yahoo answers.
The people participating here is not a good sample of America as a whole.
I have no statistics, but from observing many, many questions, I would say that the vast majority of people that participate are kids. From most older people's point of view, the kids don't know much about life, as evidenced by some of their entirely lame questions and answers.
Some kids, just to evoke anger, disgust, or as a way of getting attention, will simply say stupid things. There is a certain amount of anonymity with this computer stuff, and if you lack the maturity to handle it, this kind of crap is expected.
If you can imagine the rude comments from 12, 13, or 14 year old boys, that will explain a lot of what you read here. It's just that with our culture, that immaturity extends way beyond 14 year olds!
However, as I mentioned earlier, we do have our idiots! There is hate in this country, and there is still descrimination. Things are not as bad as they were even 50 years ago, but it's not perfect.
Unfortunately this is related to human behaviour, and therefore, will never be entirely fixed. There will alwasy be idiots, stupid people, antiquated beliefs that some people will always hang on to.
But the hatred, racism, and expressed discrimination you see here is not representative of the entire country. It's magnified by the fact that there are too many kids expressing points of view that, frankly, they don't even understand.
They only want to get attention and make people angry.
I have to admit that I'm not an expert on Bantu-African relations, but I do know a little bit about the kinds of things your people went through with respect to Apartheid. I can assure you that nothing like that exists here, and that you would most certainly be welcome here.
We just have too many spoiled brats with computers with nothing better to do than say incredibly stupid things! For the most part, that is what you see here on Yahoo Answers.
I just read the answers to your question, and I have to add a little to my answer.
One individual stated that racism started here and migrated to the rest of world. I believe that I can safely assume that both you and I realize that is not true. And another individual stated that because he is tall, he was stared at. And somehow because of that he can relate to what you have experienced.
These are not well thought out opinions, but that is because they are based on a lack of experience and knowledge. As I mentioned, Yahoo Answers is more like a bunch of kids talking in a high school study hall, and certainly not to a sample of the country as a whole.

I cannot truly say that most people are not racist, and I cannot say that most are. It really does depend on who you are interacting with. For example, in larger cities, such as New York, Miami, etc. racism is not a HUGE issue since people come from all over the world. However, if you were to go to a small town, racism would be more prominent there than in a large city. Racism, sadly enough, is still a problem. I am Asian, and I still experience discrimination. It's just one of those unfortunate things. However, if you are thinking about coming over to the US soon, don't let your fear of discrimination scare you. It is hard, and hurtful, but you just have to rise above all of that.'ve received many ignorant remarks, have been made fun of, been treated as if I were inferior, but I've learned to ignore all of that. It has made me stronger.
I would like to believe that the majority of Americans are not racist. But that might just be wishful thinking. I have lived in large cities all my life, and many of my friends are of different backgrounds. From my experiences with racism, I've learned to be open minded and I accept people for who they are, and I just hope that I get the same in return.

there is racism in America, yes. There is racism in every country. When you read such things posted on a website such as this forum, I can see how it would seem that everyone is like that. Let me assure you that not all Americans are racist, actually not all Americans are even white!! We are a melting pot here, a lot of tension over illegal immigration and such usually is the culprit behind most of these nasty answers. (not to condone their behavior) They always say not to discuss religion or politics and clearly from these boards you can see why !!

If you are intelligent enough to ask this question, then you are aware that anyplace you go you would perhaps be looked at as different. Don't worry about it. I am 6-2 and white, in Asia I stand out and stared at, so what? No place on Earth is non racist because people are in it. if you act responsibly, then in most places you are treated accordingly.

I don't think a black girl cares about the size of my butt unless she's lesbian.
