let me give you some advice: you'll never get anywhere just talking about certain genres or eras. it doesn't make for a very compelling speech.
What you first need to do is decide whether you're For or Against the topic (do you agree that today's music is nothing but noise?)
The intro should clearly state your stance on the topic.
You Should Aim for at least 2 body paragraphs, depending on how fast of a speaker you are.
And last but not least, for your conclusion, sum up what you have already said, and restate your stance on the topic.
Oh and whatever you do, do not introduce any new points in the conclusion.
Just give it your best, remember to speak with confidence, really project your voice so the people in the back of the room can hear you (i find standing up straight helps with this)
And if you're one of those people who hates making eye contact, try to look just over the tops of everyones heads, then it looks like you are looking at them.
Don't worry if you're a little bit nervous before you speak, its those nerves that will help you speak well.
Good Luck! :)

As a former public speaking stress head I believe that speaking from the heart can be the most rewarding. Find something in your topic that you relate to. In this instance what is YOUR favourite genre, why is it your favourite? If its punk rock talk about how issues of today are reflected in the lyrics. For many young people music is a major source of peer socialisation. Youth generally gravitate to music types that relate to how they are feeling. For depressed teens it may be Gothic tunes or slow miserable melodies, popular girls maybe a more mainstream Pop music. The point being that music has always played an important part in the emotional unbringing of the worlds youth. Run with that and all your other advice (I'm sure you'll get a lot) and I'm sure you'll have a winning speech in no time.

Personally, if your school is so totalitarian in the issues it restricts you to in stifling your freedom of speech in a public speaking competition, I say sod it and focus on the political motivations behind the religious conflict in Middle Eastern countries - not to mention the ways in which Western politicians have interfered and arguably agitated the situation. Stick it to The Man, mate. There are some restrictions in school that should definitely be adhered to. This is not one of them.

go back and add more depth to what you already have... Add different types of examples and really stretch it. Music comes from Classical to Jazz and Hip Hop... make sure that you are keeping everything in order because my first question would probably be "what about this type of music?" And I am sure that would throw you off...
Make sure you follow every thing... Good Luck
