I think the original name is " Dondder " / " Dunder " but in some versions you hear " Donner " which is German for " Thunder" and this sort of matches " Blitzen" which means " Lightning "

This was actually brought up on "Studuio 60 on Sunset Blvd". It was originally Donder and when the song was made, there was a mistake and it was changed to Donner.

it is donder. it is funny you asked that question. on christmas eve i bought my son t'was the night before christmas so we could start a tradition of reading it each year. it was there that i first saw it referred to as donder. i thought it might be a typo and did some research and it is donder
