There's an interesting trainer out here in Los Angeles, who offers a training regemin where he takes people and trains them to be able to dunk a basketball who had never been able to do so. Read the story about him in the link.

Basically the science of explosive jump training is called plyometrics. It is now a proven fact that this is an ability that can be trained not unlike other skills. Plyometric training is applied to a lot of different sports where jumping is a big part of the game, from track and field to hoops to volleyball.

First before anyone can dunk they have to be able to touch rim first. if you cant touch rim then you have to practice till you can by walking on your tip toes all day to get them stronger. go to a wall try finding a very high spot and try to touch it constantly. use the air alert program. i use to be just like you I'm only 5'9 i can dunk I'm 15. once you reach rim then use a small ball then work your way up to a big ball. that's how i got to dunk

Do calf raises on the edge of a stair or ledge.One foot at a time for a certain amount of reps,then switch.
