Let the present age of the daughter be x years
kTherefore,the present of the father is 3x years
4 years ago,the daughtrs age was x-4 and that of the father was 3x-4
Therefore,by the problem,
x-4+3x-4=60
=>4x-8=60
=>4x=60+8=68
=>x=68/4=17
Therefore ,the daughter is 17 years old and her father is 17X3 or 51 years old.

You need to "translate" the words into math.

Let M represents the age of the man.
Let D represents the age of the daughter.

"Man is 3 times as old as his daughter" can be writen as

M = 3D *Keep in mine that they are talking about 4 years
ago.

ALSO, "the sum of their ages WAS 60 years".

So M + D = 60 [Try rewriting this so you can have an idea of
how much older the man is compared to his
daughter. One possible result is M = 60 - D]

So you have
M = 60 - D
M = 3D

Now, two useful equations seems to be
M = 60 - D and M = 3D

Substituting, you get
3D = 60 - D
+D +D adding a D to each side
4D = 60
4D/4= 60/4 "isolate" D by dividing both sides by 4
D = 15 D is daughter's age 4 yrs ago

From the equation above, notice that M = 60 - D,
So M = 60 - 15 = 45 where M is the man's age 4 yrs ago.

Therefore, the man is 45+4 = 49 years old today. The daughter is 15+4 = 19 yrs old today.

permit x and y be the an prolonged time of the two daughters now: 36 = 2 * (x + y) x + y = 18 y = 18 - x The sum of the squares of their an prolonged time 2 years in the past replaced into 2 below thrice the guy's age (34) then: (x-2)² + (y-2)² = 3*34 - 2 (x-2)² + (18-x-2)² = one hundred (x-2)² + (sixteen-x)² = one hundred x² - 4x + 4 + x² - 32x + 256 = one hundred 2x² - 36x + one hundred sixty = 0 2 (x² - 18x + 80) = 0 x² - 18x + 80 = 0 (x - 8) (x - 10) = 0 x = 8 or 10 y = 18 - x y = 10 or 8 So the two women are 8 and 10 now answer: b. 8
