Here are a couple of sites that have some good examples.
Just make sure that you give them fair notice (two weeks at least) so that you can use them as a reference in the future.
Good luck and congratulations!

it may seem cynical yet on the tip of the day you're able to do what's sweet for you. as long as you write an basic and polite letter i do no longer see which you're able to be over worried regarding the administrative's emotions.i do no longer think for one minute that he will have any hassle filling the emptiness, so what's the subject? As a supervisor he expects to have the spectacular minor concern, that's what he's paid to handle. From what you assert, if I have been on your place, i could write with a sparkling judgment of right and incorrect.

Mr. XXXXXX
Manager of XXXXXXX

Subject: Resignation

Dear Sir,

It’s with somewhat of a heavy heart that I am submitting my written notice of resignation from XXX effective one month from today. My last day will be 30/ 01/ 2007.

The past few weeks have been a difficult time for me as I deliberated the direction of my career and whether it would be best served staying with XXXX or moving to a new position with a new employer. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have, but I am not comfortable discussing my new position at this time.

Thanks so much Mr. XXXX. My experience at XXX has been rewarding and productive, and I wish only the best for you and for the company.

If you have any questions, please ask. Thanks again for everything.

Sincerely,
XXXX

try something to the effect of
I have enjoyed my time with (insert company). However, I have an opportunity to further my studies and advance myself. I resign my position (insert position) as of (insert date). I thank you for the experience and look forward to the possibility of returning one day when I have completed my studies.

Put down exactly what you just said----you are taking the time off from work to further your studies. You appreciated all that you learned while employed there and value all the friends that you made. Wish everyone there continued success and that's it. It says it. Just do it and give them the customary 2 weeks. Good luck to you

what's wrong with what you just wrote. Most companies are happy to see people pursue more education. Just be honest and to the point.
