Melatonin.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin
Melatonin is produced naturally in the brain, this is just a boost. It gets you to sleep rather than drugs you to sleep and doesn't leave you groggy in the morning. Recent studies suggest that melatonin may help prevent certain types of cancers.
It's cheap and available over the counter at almost any drug store or where nutritional supplements are sold.

i know that pain, i don't know how regular it is for you but i find it common to waste 3-4 hours a day just trying to get to sleep. I can think of a few things that (i think) have been helpful
1) agreeable noise:
silence seems to make it harder to sleep and definatelly thinking of nothing and thinking of trying to sleep makes it harder, something like music is good but ONLY at a very low volume, one you can just make out but not too consciously draw your attenting, if its loud enough it will just keep you awake
2) hot milk never works
simple things people suggest never work because they involve activity and well that just makes it all the worse
3) having your headon an angle
i have no idea why but i find i feel much more sleepy while my heads more propped up a little than horizontal
all i can think of off the top of my head, a hint for staying awake tomorrow for work though is to stay awake through the night, any sleep you get thats isnt sufficiant will make it worse, not the healthiest thing but you can get sleep afterwards

Most of the time when you cant sleep it is because you have too much going through your mind, and you cant get it to calm down.. What I do when I cant sleep is turn on music that I know all the words to. When Im listening and singing along with the music, my mind stops concentrating on what was going on to keep me awake and I fall asleep. Before the cd ends. Works for me every time. But you have to sing along. otherwise you will just keep thinking.

looks like the time is over for me to answer this question, its already past 4hours and you needed to sleep within 3hours.But anyways next time try not to sleep within day hours, some people cant sleep during the night coz they sleep or nap during the day.
And dont drink anything that contains caffeine some hours beforer going to bed.As caffeine keeps you Awake!
GOOD LUCK!

sex!
Makes me sleepy afterwards. Best part is you don't even need a partner if you don't have one (handy)!
