Its blasphemy to even ask....
To compare Tolkien with a child that tooks bits and pieces from Tolkien, Salvatore, Moore, Murkok and many others, and created a book of epic fantasy - a genre so saturated during the past years that everything seems to recycle.
There can be no comparisson...

Lord of the rings is the better book i think. however that doesn't mean I don't like Eragon or Eldest. I love both books, it's just that Lord of the Rings is a classic and an original.

I actually did read the original
Lord Of The Rings trilogy, but I didn't enjoy much. Liked the movie though.
So I would have to say Eragon.

Lord of the Rings, there no question about it, the only thing in my opinion that even compares to Tolkien's masterpiece is the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

Tolkien gives God a run for his money in creating a believable world in a book. How can Eregon compare?

LOTR without a doubt. Without LOTR there would be no Eragon.
