No. I firmly believe that there is an abundant and readily available source of free energy available, we just haven't discovered it yet, or we have discovered it and it is being suppressed by the energy companies. I mean, come on, look at the advances in batteries since mobile phones and digital cameras came along. Look at what you needed to power your phone ten years ago and look at it now. Look at the advances in computer technology, how powerful and small computer chips are. And you think that they couldn't find a way to provide clean, cheap power to the world ? Nothing better than the internal combustion engine ? or coal powered power station ? Come on.

Personally, I think the answer lies in harnessing the power of attraction between the magnetic north and south poles. To generate electricity you need to pass a metal conductor across a magnetic field, done most efficiently by having lots of them and spinning them between the North & South poles of a magnet.

We have a gigantic North pole, we have a gigantic South pole, we have a spinning thing chock full of metal - the Earth ! Why can't we just tap in for free electricity ?

I think what people need to understand is that nuclear energy is safe and reliable. That being said the use of other means of generating power (wind, solar, geothermal energy) are all good ideas. At the present time we do not have the technology to use them to generate enough power for everyone. Nuclear energy will give us time to fully develop the other ideas without further damage to the air we breathe. I realize that we must find a better method of taking care of nuclear waste but I haven't seen any better proposals for the near future than nuclear energy. I most certainly like nuclear more than coal.

it certainly is not. renewable engergy sources are the wave of the future. they are expensive, but yield great results, as far as the environment goes. small scale hydro dams, wind turbines, solar power, fuel cells, power plants that harness the power of the tides, geothermal energy is the wave of the future. and maybe fusion if its ever invented.
