Should politicians lie to us in the name of National Security?

I assume your question simply alludes to the real question; 'Will they be honest about that fact?'.

The official answer I think would go something like this...
"I cannot comment on that at this time."

Another question comes to mind. If the government lies to the public in the name of national security is this good policy?

To answer this one I would ask you to go back to The Manhattan Project. We knew Germany was working on the bomb. As it turns out they were not too far away either. Should our program have been made public simply because of the right of the people to know what their government is doing?

Would the NY Times have run the story?

Public knowledge is public to the enemy as well as the citizenry. Just knowing of some weakness can incite the would-be enemy to action.

I'm sure they probably do quite often,But whose to say.Unfortunately or maybe even fortunately sensitive information regarding National Security is not something us commoners are usually privy to.It begs the question though,How many incidents have been covered up due to the interest of National Security.Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Absolutely... Not in all instances but some are just good for the public to not to know unless they absolutely have to. People are dumb, panicy, and they will do stupid things. Sometimes they will do things that will hurt others in the process. Sometimes it is good for our own safety not to know what is going on.
