your main prob is that ur printscreen button does not work, so pressing alt+prtscr or prtscr alone does not work. if i'm not wrong, you keyboard has additional features added which allows you to use the keyboard as a shortcut for microsoft office (e.g. words, powerpoint etc.), internet applications or even volume control. thus, your prtscr button has 2 functions. so, to disable the added function, u hv to press on a certain button to disable the special function keys. for Logitech keyboard, there is an F-Lock key. If yours isn't a Logitech, try figure it out if there's any such similar key around. Mine is called Office Lock.
PrtScr button allows you to copy the whole monitor screen. Alt + PrtScr only allows you to copy the application running at the top most. Which ever one you use, just go into Words and paste your copied screen there.

For Windows XP
For this demonstration, ensure that you are connected to the Internet.
Then Double click on the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop until it opens a Web Page.
After the Web Page loads, press the Print Screen (Prnt Scrn) button on your keyboard.
Windows will send the entire contents of your Web Page to the Clipboard in graphic format.
Now open up the Windows Paint Program by first clicking on your Start Button.
Then move your mouse over the All Programs icon to display all Start Menu folders.
If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, move your mouse over the Programs folder instead.
Now, move your mouse onto the Accessories menu folder until it expands.
Now click on the Paint icon to launch the Microsoft Paint Program.
Then click on the word Edit, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Paste.
Notice how Windows pastes the entire contents of your Web Page into the Paint program.
And all the tools of the Paint Program are available to reduce, enlarge and Print the contents.
To Print, click on the word File, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Print.

It's print screen, not printer screen. It also has absolutely nothing to do with your printer. It basically copies whatever it is that you're looking at and allows you to paste it wherever. From there, you can go to File, Print if you want to print it.

Actually what you need to do is press alt+print screen. Then open up Microsoft Paint and press ctrl+V. The picture will paste there and you'll be able to save it.

No. The print screen button just takes a copy of the screen you are looking at at that particular moment.
