I agree with Jitender
The major difference between an Asur and a Dev is that Asur lives for his ego...whereas devas live to help others.
Ravan was , though he was very learned, great sadhaka but, with a very big ego.... this is the main aspect which made him an Asur and villain, despite him being a Brahmin

The villain and hero is with in us, not outside. Ravana is the manifestation of the villain inside us. Ravana succumbed to worldy weakness of anger, ego and lust, which all of us have inside us. We need to remove the Ravana and establish Siri HARI RAMA ji with in us.

ravana charater shows the character of heighly Egoistic person. he was wise, powerfull everything but Ego destryes everything.a person is villon because of some evil anything .this evil does not leaves anybody. a murderer can get freedom from sin,a lier can get the solvation , but ego is the evil of many evils.

both of our epics are allegorical.Ramayana is the story of cultural ands social invasion by the Aryans that was happening in that age:Ram :the leader from Aryan community ,Ravana ;the leader of the local original inhabitants of the place. As the whole story was written by one from the the Aryan community (Balmiki) as a narrative of their victory ,Ravana was portrayed as a vicious character.

He is a super villan and very close to god in power, only he was misusing his power. No mortal could finish him, so god had to come in person to finish him. Dying at god's hand itself is considered as good as enlightenment and liberation of the soul.

Nobody agrees. He was scholar who committed a mistake in his life , the way other scholars often do in their life time and so he was punished - thats it.
